Food Trends in 2019 Update: Dairy
Last year we discussed the overwhelming presence dairy has in this state. We know that if you are from Wisconsin, you grew up in the milk and cheese state and were always proud of that fact. Over the last few years, there has been a campaign coming from the west coast claiming “happy cows come from California” as the state of California has begun trying to brand themselves as America’s Dairyland. With recent dairy trends in Wisconsin however, that isn’t happening soon.
In recent years we continuously churn out over 2.5 billion pounds of cheese a total which was not coming close to being passed. We are also one of the highest consumers of cheese due to all the great selection.
However in 2019 there has been some turbulence in the Dairy industry. Due to outside factors like depressed milk prices Wisconsin has unfortunately led the nation in Dairy Farm Bankruptcies. The small family dairy farm has taken a hit recently in our great state. This recent update to dairy trends will hopefully turn around in 2020 and we will be sure to keep our loyal blog readers updated.
Even though there’s been rough times recently for Wisconsin dairy farms, the Lac Du Flambeau Country Market still has one of the best selections of dairy products in the area. With a focus on high-quality, local ingredients, you know that you are going to get the best.
