Chili: Easy Recipes for your Quarantine
As most of us continue to stay at home through out these trying times we continue to try to find innovative ways to both entertain our families as well as practically feed them. At the LDF Country Market we continue to have some of the best options around while practicing all CDC and proper health recommendations and requirements. So as we share these recipes we want to make sure if you find any of them helpful or tasty you can find the ingredients you need within a safe and healthy environment; especially for great dishes like chili.
This week we’re looking at a take on a classic winter/hibernation friendly food; chili. The author of the recipe says this version is their go to for tailgating at their favorite team’s games. We’ll tailgate a gain someday, so why not perfect this recipe now and have it ready to go when we get back to normalcy?
For this recipe you’ll need ground beef, Italian sausage, chili beans, tomato paste and several vegetables. All this while adding two Wisconsin treasures, beer and cheese. Any great chili experience allows for customization but this one sounds pretty good as is and we’re happy to share it. The ingredient list is a little long but well worth it.
-
Heat a large stock pot over medium-high heat. Crumble the ground chuck and sausage into the hot pan, and cook until evenly browned. Drain off excess grease.
-
Pour in the chili beans, spicy chili beans, diced tomatoes and tomato paste. Add the onion, celery, green and red bell peppers, chili peppers, bacon bits, bouillon, and beer. Season with chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, oregano, cumin, hot pepper sauce, basil, salt, pepper, cayenne, paprika, and sugar. Stir to blend, then cover and simmer over low heat for at least 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
-
After 2 hours, taste, and adjust salt, pepper, and chili powder if necessary. The longer the chili simmers, the better it will taste. Remove from heat and serve, or refrigerate, and serve the next day.
-
To serve, ladle into bowls, and top with corn chips and shredded Cheddar cheese.
